Faye’s Neurologist took her off Prednisone, but left her on Mestinon. Her symptoms worsened considerably . 😒He’s sending her for multiple tests to confirm her diagnosis, and I hate watching her struggle again while we wait.😔 Things aren’t as bad as before the Mestinon, but there is definitely a huge difference when the lower or remove the prednisone. Even though prednisone is very helpful, it’s also a horrible medication for your body. From what I have seen neurologists and other drs for other diseases try to get you off as soon as possible. And they try to go with the lowest doses as possible because of this. I’m glad to hear he’s trying to confirm diagnosis. If the mestinon isn’t working, I hope he finds what is going on and finds something to help

Yes, some people with myasthenia gravis take prednisone daily, especially for severe or life-threatening symptoms. However, long-term use can lead to side effects like weight gain, osteoporosis, and high blood pressure.

For daily use, another option is Mestinon (Pyridostigmine), which is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It helps improve communication between nerves and muscles, reducing muscle weakness. Mestinon is available in tablet, syrup, and time-release forms, and is typically taken once or twice daily.

Always consult your healthcare provider to determine the best treatment plan for you.
