Pyridostigmine helps with neuromuscular communication prednisone is an immunosuppressant against antibodies. Not familiar with the other medication. I also take Azathioprine, another immunosuppressant.

Yes mestinon helps, I get that but prednisone and cellcept should reduce the antibodies that attack our body which in turn is why we need to use mestinon. Right??

Pyridostigmine is a game changer for MG!

Mestinon (pyridostigmine) is a cholinesterase inhibitor that helps improve communication between nerves and muscles by breaking down acetylcholine. This can reduce muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis (MG).

Mestinon (pyridostigmine) is a cholinesterase inhibitor that helps improve communication between nerves and muscles by breaking down acetylcholine. This can reduce muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis (MG).
Here’s why someone might take Mestinon:
- Symptom Management: Mestinon directly addresses muscle weakness, a primary symptom of MG.
- Immediate Relief: It can provide quicker relief of symptoms compared to some immunosuppressants, which may take longer to show effects.
However, since MG is caused by antibodies attacking the neuromuscular junction, treatments like prednisone and other immunosuppressants are also used to reduce the production of these harmful antibodies. Your current treatment with prednisone and another immunosuppressant (likely 1000 mg of a medication like mycophenolate mofetil) aims to control the underlying autoimmune response.
Combining these treatments can help manage both the symptoms and the root cause of MG. Always follow your doctor's recommendations for the best treatment plan tailored to your needs.
