Dear Pat, sorry to be late to reply to your answer, I had problems with my computer and I'm not technically savvy. I'm happy you found Huperzine as it one of the best treatment for MG. I knew about it as a brain supplement but recently discover it's benefit for MG. Unfortunately, it's not helping my memory, but it helps most of the symtoms just like Mestinon without the side effects. I think my brain was affected when I had acute respiratory failure during a crisis last March when I was intubated at the ICU. I have recovered well and fell good. I take Huperzine once or twice a day, 100 or 200mcg, the 200 doesn't feel that much stronger but may last longer. I still take a little Mestinon and trying to weane myself from prednisone. Huperzine is use in Chineese medicine for treating MG. Amazing that neurologists don't know about it. I also found some interesting information at Life Extension/Myasthenia Gravis. Like you, I prefer natural ways. I wish you many good days and remission soon.

Hi Micheline, i think you are right about having MG affect not only muscles but brain too because they all use the same chemical to function. I have done alot of research on what kind of natural supplements would help myasthemia gravis and almost all that have been found to help are products designed for brain health . I have been trying a supplement called huperzine. I take 100mcg in morn and night. Thats a small dose but i wanted to try it out. Im going up to two hundred dose in a while to see if it will work better yet. . It helps the body to stop the breakdown of the acetylcholine so you have more to work your muscles. According to info ive read on it , It is usually used for improving brain function but has proved itself useful for helping nerve function in MG also. I have only been on it about two weeks and feel a difference in muscle strength but also feel a difference starting in my mental clarity. I have also read that the supplement choline will help MG. It helps your body make more acetycholine. It too is a supplement for the brain but has been found to help people with MG.
Im not a dr , just a regular person who likes to find more natural ways of helping my body. So this is by no means professional advice. Just info i have found. And it works for me but you will have to make your own choices. Hope you have more good days than bad! Pat

Myasthenia gravis (MG) primarily affects the communication between nerves and muscles, leading to muscle weakness. While acetylcholine is involved in brain function, MG itself does not directly affect the brain. However, the symptoms and the stress of managing a chronic condition can impact overall well-being.

For your diagnosis in February, here are some key points to consider:

- Advocacy: Advocate for yourself with healthcare providers, employers, and educators to ensure they understand MG and your needs.
- Awareness: June is Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month, a great time to share information and raise awareness about the condition.
- Diagnosis: Diagnosis often involves neurological tests, blood tests for abnormal antibodies, and other specific tests like the ice pack test and electromyography (EMG).

If you have more specific concerns, it's always best to discuss them with your healthcare provider.
